Dyke Church – Repairs to the west gable

The west gable is in need of repairs to the stonework and the work will be beginning shortly.

The stonework capping the gable wall is deteriorating and parts are becoming loose. The bellcote also has some cracks and decay. To carry out these works requires the scaffolding of the whole gable. This scaffold will also give us access to repoint the wall. The old cement mortar is causing damage to the stonework and it will be replaced with lime mortar. This will enable the wall to dry out, reducing the interior damp and reducing further damage.

The stonemasons will also carry out some minor repairs to the kitchen extension.

We are fortunate to have obtained two grants towards the cost of the work. They are from the National Churches Trust and the Scotland’s Churches Trust.

The work will require the path around the church to be closed for the duration of the project.
